National Technologies was contracted by a customer in the heavy machining industry to manufacture the ball stud profiled shown here, to be used within a steering assembly component. Utilizing our modern Haas lathe, and Haas mill equipment, 41 B-45 half hard steel material was shaped with CNC turning techniques to meet the 6.618” configuration. A tight 0.003″ tolerance was held throughout. The precision detailing work was completed with threading and drilling processes. Heat treatment was performed for increased strength and wear resistance, meeting the Rc 58 minimum hardness specification. The unit was polished to a smooth 32 micro finish, and the component was inspected for accuracy and integrity with visual and dimensional inspection methods.

We completed 16,585 units for this customer after a turnaround time of 4 weeks. The original contract for this part consisted of a small order, manufactured under a tight deadline. The customer was satisfied with our competitive pricing, rapid turnaround time and accurate results and awarded NTI with the opportunity to fabricate a family of similar parts. We welcomed the challenge and upgraded our equipment with a new three machine cell to ensure the efficient fabrication of these components.
